KBW Financial Staffing & Recruiting has partnered with a growing life sciences company near Portland, Maine who is searching for an Accounting Manager to join their dynamic finance team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Controller, FP&A and Finance to develop and maintain robust accounting controls, processes, and procedures that will lay the foundation for the organization’s future success. This position is integral to both long-term and short-term financial planning and will oversee comprehensive accounting management, including general accounting, cash application, and accounts payable. This position is open to anyone with prior managerial accounting experience ideally within life sciences, biotech/pharma, but would be open to other industry experience with strong corporate GAAP accounting experience. Must have a CPA in order to be eligible for consideration.

Key Responsibilities For The Accounting Manager

• Work alongside the Director of Finance Americas to establish and sustain strong accounting controls, processes, and procedures. Play a pivotal role in financial process and controls planning to support the organization’s growth.
• Oversee all aspects of general accounting, including cash application and accounts payable, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in daily operations.
• Lead the accounting department’s daily functions, including accounts payable, fixed assets, and cash application. Provide leadership and guidance to staff accountants.
• Manage payroll and headcount reconciliations, comparing budget vs. actuals
• Support monthly and annual balance sheet and profit & loss (P&L) forecasts.
• Execute, review, and approve monthly general ledger journal entries.
• Ensure accuracy and completion of all general ledger account reconciliations.
• Monitor and analyze accounting data, producing comprehensive financial reports and statements.
• Develop, implement, and enhance accounting procedures by analyzing current practices and driving improvements. Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Lead the annual internal and external audits by managing all internal deliverables and liaising with auditors.
• Ensure proper internal controls, create process improvements and SOP’s to help support the existing accounting team, mentor and train current and new hires on best practices
• Lead the accounting team in the monthly close process, ensuring all P&L related analysis and requirements are met.
  

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, active CPA certification is required
• 6+ years of relevant accounting experience with at least 1+ years in a managerial accounting role
• Experience working within Biotech, Pharma or Life Sciences within accounting or finance is highly preferred but not required
• Strong GAAP accounting experience, ability to analyze and create new process improvements and internal controls
  

Salary: $100,000- $150,000 + Bonus + Competitive Benefits
